The oigin of the Corn Dog

The corn dog, also known as a dagwood dog, pluto pup, or popper dog, is a sausage coated in a thick layer of cornmeal batter and deep-fried. It is believed that the first corn dogs were created in the late 1920s by German immigrants in Texas, who called them “dachshund sausages” due to their resemblance to the dachshund breed of dog. In the 1940s, a man named Pronto Pup was credited for inventing the modern-day corn dog recipe. He sold the popular treat at fairs and festivals in the Midwest. Today, corn dogs are a beloved snack food found at carnivals, state fairs, and even grocery stores.
